Regrets

Unfortunately, the Tribe anthology has been stalled due to work and personal reasons.

If you submitted work - Thank You. Feel free to submit it elsewhere.

In the event that Tribe is revived, I will review submissions received, and if I wish to publish your piece, I will contact you for permission. Meanwhile, best of luck in placing it elsewhere.

I apologize for not responding to queries, etc. sooner.

Best of luck in all your writing endeavours.

Not quite a flood, but submissions are now flowing in after a slow start. Helped, I think, by the project being listed on a couple of websites and blogs that list anthologies and publications seeking submissions.

We have received a couple of requests that we check a writer's blog or website for suitable material. Something we can't and won't do. It takes too much time, and if a writer seriously wants their work considered, they need to check the guidelines and submit their best, appropriate work that reflects the criteria.

I'm interested in the variety and range of work we've received so far and enjoy the first read quick readthrough before filing it for a closer look later.

Thanks to all those who've submitted so far and have, as I suggest in my first response email, checked the blog from time to time for updates. You'll be hearing from me again in the next month or so.

Meanwhile, enjoy your summer.

Promo artwork

I love gesture drawings - images that capture the essence of the subject, leaving the rest to the viewer's imagination. While they are often used as training tools for people learning to draw - and see better - I date my love of them back to when I was a child and spent hours with one of my mother's favourite books People of Importance

When we were clearing out their house after my parents' deaths, we were disappointed not to find the book. It had always sat on a shelf alongside another favourite - a photo essay about a cat called Sam.

Browsing some images online for gesture drawings recently, I found this one by British printmaker Bridget Farmer. I now have her permission to use it on posters and other materials promoting the anthology.  Check out more of her work at her website.

What am I looking for?

Yesterday I was asked what criteria I will be using to evaluate submissions. The editorial committee will come up with a checklist to help achieve some kind of subjectivity in reviewing the fiction and poetry we receive. But yesterday I was able to articulate the main things I look for in a piece of writing.

So I added a page to this blog 'For Writers', where I will be including some information about what I will be hoping to see in submissions to TRIBE anthology.

Check it out.
